A fire broke out in the Way2wealth Securities Pvt Ltd office, located on the seventh floor of Raheja Paramount at Residency Road on Thursday morning. Around 14 fire tenders rushed and doused the fire. The blaze started in the server room of the office at around 9 am. When one of the attenders switched on the UPS, a fire broke out. Sensing danger, the staff switched off the electric supply.Panicky staffers ran out as the fire spread through the office. Staffers of other offices like Intellectual Ventures, eCosway, Deccan Express and Logistics, and JTI were asked by the fire brigade to vacate the building.“Even though the building had fire safety equipment, it was not maintained properly. Hence the staff were unable to use the equipment,” said DGP (fire and emergency services) Jija Harisingh.

Godown gutted in Cubbonpet

Narrow and congested lanes in the city’s core area hampered the work of the fire brigade in tackling a major fire on 9th Cross, Cubbonpet Main Road.The fire started in the godown of a three-storied building at around 9.30 am on Friday and spread to the first and second floors within minutes. Though there were no casualties, the building suffered extensive damage.According to a fire force officer, highly combustible materials were kept in the godown and this led to the fire spreading quickly. Ten fire engines rushed to the spot and controlled the fire in about an hour.While an electrical short-circuit is thought to have caused the blaze, the fire brigade and KPTCL officials are trying to ascertain the real cause.Lakhs of rupees lost“I and members of my family were sleeping in the house when the neighbours shouted for us to get out,” said house owner Lokesh. Suspecting that the fire was caused by miscreants, Lokesh said it had caused him losses running into lakhs of rupees.Ulsoor Gate sub-division ACP Gachinacatti said the narrow roads in the area had caused problems for the fire fighters and urged residents of the area to be doubly cautious in preventing fire accidents.The Ulsoor Gate police are investigating the incident.

Shop catches fire

Two fire mishaps have been reported in the City since Friday. A spare parts shop - MG Motors on Cock Burn Road was gutted in a fire, on Friday evening. According to police, a few people who noticed thick smoke inside the locked shop informed the police. Fire force personnel rushed to the spot. Six fire tenders and 40 firemen took nearly an hour to put out the fire. The entire area was plunged into darkness due to power failure, following the mishap. Electric short circuit is said to be the reason, police said. The loss in the mishap is yet to be estimated. Meanwhile, in another incident, fire broke open in a old garage on 9th Cross at Cubbonpet and nearly 11 fire tenders battled the flames for more than four hours on Friday morning. Ulsoor Gate police said, around 9 am, passersby noticed thick flames coming out of the old garage and alerted the Fire Force. Short circuit is said to be reason and the loss is estimated around Rs 5 lakh.

Three major fire incidents in the city Crime Notes

Bangalore: The personnel of the Department of Fire and Emergency Services had a busy Friday putting out three major fires in Ulsoor Gate, Bamboo Bazaar and on Outer Ring Road which materials worth several lakhs were destroyed.All the three fires were caused by combustible material, and it took a while for the fire brigade officials to douse the fires. Scrap material worth Rs. 1 lakh, belonging to scrap dealer S.V. Lokesh, were destroyed in a godown on Cubbonpet Main Road. Eight fire tenders put out the fire though local people alleged that the fire personnel took 45 minutes to reach the spot. Later in the evening, around 5.50 p.m., a fire broke out at M.G. Motors on Cockburn Road in Bamboo Bazaar. A lorry, which was carrying sponge, was destroyed on Outer Ring Road near Hennur Cross on Friday night around 8.20, which entailed the deployment of one fire tender.

Mock drill

BANGALORE: The NCC and NSS unit of Kristu Jayanti College, in collaboration with the Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services Department and Home Guards and Civil Defence hosted a mock drill on disaster management for students, staff and residents of K. Narayanapura, on the college premises on Monday.

Fire averted

KOLAR: Alert public averted a major fire accident in Kolar on Sunday. Residents of Palasndra Layout in Gulpet police station limits saw smoke near Sri Krishna Tyres and alerted the Fire and Emergency Services. The fire tender personnel immediately rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire which caught the waste tyres dumped behind the factory.
