Gutted:Uttara Kannada in-charge Minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri at the market where shops were destroyed in fire in Karwar on Wednesday.
Karwar: Five shops were destroyed in fire at the vegetable market here on Wednesday. The reason for the fire is not known. According to shopkeepers, the fire broke out at 2.30 a.m. The market is adjacent to the rural police station and some policemen extinguished the fire with the help of fire force personnel. The loss has been estimated at Rs. 65,000. District in-charge Minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri visited the spot. The Minister directed the revenue authorities to assess the loss and distribute compensation to the shopkeepers.
