MYSORE: Timely presence of a fire engine averted a major fire mishap that could have burnt down an LPG-fitted four-wheeler along with other vehicles at high populated area in Kumbarageri inheart of the city on Saturday.
District fire officer H M Shivanegowda said an LPG-fitted four-wheeler caught fire when an amateur welder was trying to repair it. Officer said the owner of the garage was away and the apprentice, while working sparked the LPG tank and vehicle was on fire. The incident occurred around 11am.

Neighbouring shopkeepers immediately alerted the fire department which sent a fire engine that was just half a kilometer away from spot. Luckily, there was not much LPG in the tank and as a result a major tragedy was averted. Nobody was injured in the incident, but an auto rickshaw which was next to the four-wheeler was got partially burnt.

An officer said the apprentice fled from the spot when the vehicle caught fire. A case has been registered at J L Puram Police station.
