Kundapur: Furniture store catches fire; causes loss of several lacs

Kundapur, Apr 23: Miscreants are said to have set fire to a seat cushion (bed work) shop situated in Panchayat building near Koteshwar fish market on Monday late night, April 21 here.  The loss is estimated to be of several lacs. The shop named Champion Bed Works is owned by Koteshwar Kinar Road resident Kasim.  Kasim had closed the shop at 8.30 pm on Monday night and gone home.  Police informed him of the fire in the late night and by the time he rushed to his shop the goods in the shop had burned to ashes. The remaining goods were shifted later with the help of the police. Kundapur fire brigade had extinguished the fire. The incident is an aftermath of the communal tension during the last 3-4 days in Kundapur and has given rise to suspicion.  Kasim and his son Siraj have said that they put the electric switches off just before closing the shop every night and there is no possibility of a short circuit.  They have said that they are conducting business in the place for the last fourteen years and strongly suspect the hand of miscreants in the misdeed. Seats, Bed, Rexene, Bedding cloth, Pillows, Mat, Tailoring machine, Furniture, cash, ATM cards, Mobile and TV are destroyed in fire.  The loss is estimated to be about Rs 4 lacs.
