Shop catches fire

Two fire mishaps have been reported in the City since Friday. A spare parts shop - MG Motors on Cock Burn Road was gutted in a fire, on Friday evening. According to police, a few people who noticed thick smoke inside the locked shop informed the police. Fire force personnel rushed to the spot. Six fire tenders and 40 firemen took nearly an hour to put out the fire. The entire area was plunged into darkness due to power failure, following the mishap. Electric short circuit is said to be the reason, police said. The loss in the mishap is yet to be estimated. Meanwhile, in another incident, fire broke open in a old garage on 9th Cross at Cubbonpet and nearly 11 fire tenders battled the flames for more than four hours on Friday morning. Ulsoor Gate police said, around 9 am, passersby noticed thick flames coming out of the old garage and alerted the Fire Force. Short circuit is said to be reason and the loss is estimated around Rs 5 lakh.
