Fire in Shimoga godown causes extensive damage



HUGE LOSS: A major fire broke out in a godown on the premises of Tunga Rice Mill in Shimoga on Thursday.
SHIMOGA: A major fire broke out at a godown situated on the premises of the Tunga Rice Mill near the Bus Stand on B.H. Road on Thursday causing extensive damage. The fire has been attributed to a short circuit. It was brought under control around noon on Thursday after personnel of the fire brigade worked nearly for ten hours. The estimated loss on account of the fire has been put around Rs. 50 lakh. The entire stock at the godown containing commercial gas cylinders, rice bags, power generators, electrical components, edible oil containers, oil seeds and match boxes was reduced to the ashes. The cylinders exploded one by one as the fire started spreading causing a deafening sound around. The fire at the godown reportedly belonging to Vijay Sales Corporation was noticed around 1.30 a.m.

Lack of fire fighters
As only three fire fighters were available locally, additional fire fighters were requisitioned from Birur, Kadur, Bhadravati and Sagar.
